Yonkers oil tank building files and Fire Department records

Use the Housing & Buildings historic-file route and keep any Fire Department tank record request separate from new permit filing.

Before you search

Start with the right identifiers.

Property address, block and lot, approximate work dates and permit number; identify whether the needed file is Building or Fire-held.

Bring what you have. Missing identifiers can be part of the route review.
01

Request the historic property file

Housing & Buildings asks users to locate block and lot and make a file-review appointment. During digitization, its current instructions say a document link is sent instead of an office visit; the link may arrive after the appointment date.

02

Use Fire's separate records route

The Fire Department lists an Incident or Record Search via the City's FOIL route. Use this if the missing tank document belongs to Fire. A new City Squared permit application is not the same thing as retrieval of an old tank file.

03

Keep county evidence separate

If a file cites Westchester petroleum bulk storage material, follow that county route as another source. Preserve the issuer and reference for each document. A digitization delay in the City file does not mean the property has no historic records.

After the search

What should you actually come away with?

A property-matched record trail showing what each document actually establishes.

Permit or index

Compare parcel/address, issuer, reference and the proposed work.

Still missing? Permission to do work is not evidence that the work was completed.

Completion evidence

Compare inspection date, tank location and removal versus abandonment wording.

Still missing? Keep a seller's statement or invoice separate from the agency's completion record.

Remaining scope

List environmental references, missing attachments and the exact scope of any no-record reply.

Still missing? Stop calling the search complete while an applicable source or attachment remains unresolved.

Comparison checklist by Oil Tank Route, based on the official routes above. Not an agency certification, document authentication or a property-safety finding.

Your private record worksheet

Keep the next step clear.

Prepare search keys here, open the official sources above, then record what happened. Nothing is searched or sent automatically. A postal city or ZIP does not establish legal jurisdiction.

Suggested document scope for this route: the tank-related permit, final inspection and removal or abandonment completion documents. Narrow this to the files you still need.

Optional identifiers — stay in your browser

What happened at each source?

These are your notes, not verified agency findings. Leave a source as “Not checked” until you use it.

Your next actions

Start with the identifiers and first applicable source. An online blank, an inaccessible portal and an agency no-record reply are three different outcomes.

No result is not proof of no tank. A candidate document still needs its property, issuer, dates and stated scope checked.

Optional human research is available for NJ/NY, subject to intake review. The worksheet is separate and is not attached automatically.

Make the request specific

A ready-to-adapt outline.

Please provide existing tank-related [Building/Fire] permits, final inspections and completion records for [property; block/lot], [dates], reference [number]. Please identify any historic material still awaiting digitization.

Replace the bracketed fields and follow the agency’s current form, disclosure, and fee instructions. This is a draft, not a sent request.

Keep the limits visible.

Yonkers Building, City Fire, Westchester Health and DEC are separate possible custodians. This page does not promise every file is digitized or immediately delivered.
