Brookhaven oil tank permits and property documents
Brookhaven offers a building property-document research route and a separate FOIL process. County Health and state DEC records are not Town-held files.

Before you search
Start with the right identifiers.
Street address, district/section/block/lot, municipality or village, work dates, and known permit or request references.
Bring what you have. Missing identifiers can be part of the route review.01
Use the property-document research service
The Building Division links online property-document requests and research appointments. Its page announces a digital-services transition for September 28, 2026. Recheck the page before choosing a submission method during that change.
The Town FOIL instructions require an account and department selection. Keep a request acknowledgment distinct from the returned permit or inspection record. Use the current Town entry point rather than an obsolete bookmarked form.
Brookhaven explicitly lists county Health Department and NYS DEC records among records it does not hold. Our plan splits those searches from Town construction records so a Town no-records response cannot stand in for a county or state result.
Please provide tank-related building permits, inspection results, and completion attachments for [address; tax-map number], [dates]. Please confirm the current property-document request route during the digital-services transition.
Replace the bracketed fields and follow the agency’s current form, disclosure, and fee instructions. This is a draft, not a sent request.
Keep the limits visible.
The upcoming portal change needs a fresh check before submission. A Town search excludes county Health and state DEC files and does not establish physical tank absence.
Send the property and your question. First, we confirm whether we can help and which records to pursue. You do not need an existing file to get started.
Cost
Free during the founder-led beta. Any agency fees are identified separately before a paid request.
First response
Initial route review target: 2 business days—not a final report deadline.
Your records
Private intake. No public case pages.
We confirm the scope and any request authorization before agency outreach. Agency timing varies; a record may be unavailable. Research is not a safety certification or legal opinion.
